How Can Therapy for Anxiety Help?

take the first step

Anxiety treatment often begins by looking at the situations and thoughts that may be contributing to anxiety. Mindfulness can help build greater awareness of these thoughts and situations. With increased mindfulness, we can aim to understand more about your whole experience.

Understand Your Experience

Our thoughts have a relationship with our emotions, bodily sensations, and behaviors. Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) is expert therapy focusing on this relationship and is supported by research for anxiety treatment. Using CBT, we might note a thought such as “what if it doesn’t work out?” and aim to understand how it may impact your emotions and behavior. As we develop an understanding of how your thoughts may influence your emotions, physical sensations, and behaviors we can aim to make thoughts balanced and helpful.

Engage in a Meaningful life

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a second type of evidence-based treatment commonly used for anxiety. Perhaps you find yourself resisting certain realities, avoiding situations that provoke anxiety, or trying to keep everything "in control" to limit anxiety. These types of behaviors can leave us feeling disconnected from joy and our authentic selves. Together we can identify areas of resistance and avoidance that may be contributing to suffering, and aim to shift that focus toward leading a value-driven life.

Connect the Mind, Body & Soul

Lastly, I believe that a holistic approach can help us best improve anxiety. This means that anxiety treatment might include daily movement, spending time in nature, aspects of spirituality if important to you, or self-compassion, for example. The mind and body are connected, and I believe that we can best help ourselves when we honor them both.
